Everybody fails at some point in their life in some way big or small. It’s detrimental in growing and learning as a person. Although I feel like it’s important and healthy in certain ways, I think dwelling on your failures can hurt you more than the fail in of itself. My photograph focuses on a large failure which would be alcoholism in somebody’s life. It might seem dumb, but many individuals; teenagers included, are alcoholics and therefore have problems in life because of that. It’s reported that 1 in 6 teenagers binge drink and 1 in 5 teenagers in fatal car accidents have alcohol in their system. Not only can it be fatal, but excessive drinking can lead to troubles with relationships and work/school.
Despite this, my photo does not focus on the negative ways with which alcohol can hurt somebody rather the importance of being able to move on from that and let go of your past failures. I think a lot of the time when it comes to relapse with addiction, it is because somebody has not worked through their problems that caused them to start abusing stuff in the first place. They don’t fully commit or “cut ties” with this addiction and their past selves.
In my photo, the model is a teen instead of an adult because I wanted to focus on a less common talked about subject, it’s easy to envision an adult as an alcoholic but not really a teenager. Also, I didn’t really have any other models at the time. The model has their hand wrapped up and tangled in the ribbon which is attached and entangled with their addiction to alcohol and they are not cutting that tie which is important. They are giving in and letting it take over which is why the ribbon is pulling their hand closer.
