Artist Statement

Many people throw around trust in situations involving alcohol or other substances. Trust me it was just one beer, Trust me I can drive, Trust me I’m not that drunk. The possible last words of your friend, family member, or even a stranger can have trust me within them. It’s easy to have trust for somebody and use that as an excuse but it’s harder to say you trust somebody but you won’t listen to what they have to say.

My photograph features a spilled beer bottle and a deadly skeleton sign within the liquid. I chose this because I felt showing alcohol as a deadly thing would have a bigger impact. It can impair your judgement and decrease the control you have over your own body. Trusting somebody when you’re unsure of how they are physically  is not only putting said person’s life at risk but those who are also involved, if they’re driving or going out where other people are. I think it’s important to highlight that alcohol within itself is not the problem but the way it is used- responsibly or irresponsibly.

My original goal was to have drops of the beer and little skulls shown within each drop because I was researching a technique like that, but it was a lot harder to follow and I ended up with this instead.
