The ability to create has always been important in evolution and the progression of the world throughout time. Curiosity stems from humans’ fascination of knowing how and why something is made. A controversial example of this with which I’ve always been interested in, is the creation of the Earth and mankind through interpretations presented by religious and nonreligious groups. Although I personally am not a very religious person, I chose to go that route for my picture because the story of Adam and Eve, to those who are religious, is a pivotal point in human development.

Researching the story was one of the hardest parts of this photo because there are so many opinions on the meaning and the analysis really differs from person to person. To keep things general, I chose to use the serpent and the apple as the main focus of my image because according to the story, the serpent influenced Eve to take a bite of the apple from the forbidden tree of knowledge. I believe that this is the most important part because it reinforces the gaining of knowledge as a contribution to the creation of mankind as a whole.

The snake’s position around the apple represents preservation of knowledge while the shadows are present to give the picture a forbidding impression. If I could re shoot this photo, I would definitely play around more with the lighting and try to shoot somewhere with a better background. This was a lot more difficult than some of my other shoots because of my model being an animal instead of a human. Despite this, it was also my most engaging shoot because the outcome was dependent on what my snake did naturally and I was unable to manipulate all of the components of the photograph like I usually am able to do.
