Mood and Color

Artist Statement
Associating colors with feelings or moods is a common thing that everyone does-- subconsciously or consciously. We think red equals angry or love, we think of blue as sad, etc. But moods can also come from colors associated with different items.
Paint samples are an example of this. Certain blues may remind us of the sky, blacks of that one hoodie that makes us happy, or yellow like that one popsicle you had the weekend before. All these seemingly insignificant colors of items stick with you and will help in developing a bias towards certain colors because of the meaning it has to you personally.
This photo uses a paint sample card titled ‘String of Pearls’ and has a cut out with real pearls showing through. It emphasizes the fact that colors can be connected to real items and they may evoke emotions or moods. If I were to redo this photograph I would focus more on the cut out from the paint card and make it less sloppy and rushed.
